Opt-in marketing is the idea of giving your customers a choice to receive further marketing communication from you, usually email. Typically the approach is on a checkout form or a contact form to have a check box that asks the user if they want to receive promotions or more information. You can also give incentives for users to receive this opt-in communication. It can be something like a discount or a coupon code, especially for e-commerce.

The important thing with opt-in marketing is to follow that up with a high quality email marketing campaign. If you just start spamming the user with emails after they opt-in, they’re not going to be happy and they’re just going to opt-out right away. If you follow up with good timely emails and an effective campaign, you’re going to have a better overall customer experience from start to finish, and come back to you again and again.
