Calls to Action

September 11, 2012

A call to action is when you request a site visitor to perform some act or action like signing up for a newsletter or filling out a questionnaire. When placing these requests within your site, it is always important to consider what and how many there should be. Many sites get bogged down with too many conversions, which can prompt user inaction or confusion. We recommend that if possible, you attempt to pair calls to action with the content on your site. This could be a newsletter signup that is placed within the news section of your site, or a calculator on your services/product pages.

Lastly, placement and contrast are important. Conversions should standout compared to the rest of the page. Although, this won’t always apply, a good rule of thumb is that the best placement is in the top right hand corner next to the content. You want to make sure that your placement helps to blend both the content and the call to action seamlessly to avoid distraction. Just make sure that you don’t make the request to hard to find. Just using bold font isn’t enough, you have to make sure visitors aren’t left hunting for your button.
