For an amazing art and technology festival in downtown Cleveland, you need a site that will excite visitors to attend (and since it is art & technology, the site should look good and do cool things). The redesign of the Ingenuity Festival site for 2009 was focused on creating a grand vision of the festival and Cleveland.
There area lot of great parts of the site, but three we particularly want to point out:
- The home page banner - providing the main messages of what, when and where while also providing a button to view the trailer (the number one method of explaining the festival for people not familiar). It also includes clear navigation seperated into actions at the top and information above the content.
- Social media integration - the site was launched with easy access to ingenuity's facebook page and a preview of their twitter. On sub-pages we included links to help share all content to help make the site viral. And our favorite, we created a live feed that displays mentions of the festival on Twitter. During the event we plan to integrate a number of additional social media features to allow people to share photos and talk live about the event.
- Simple, quick schedule - in the past it has been hard to display a schedule online that was user friendly because of hundreds of performers, locations, days/times, genres, etc. So this year we brought it back to basics with an interface that allows quick sorting and browsing of an event list.
